Island Harness-FAQ

Sizing & Fit

Q1: How do I choose the right size?
Measure your dog’s chest girth (in inches)—the widest part right behind the front legs. Choose the size that matches your measurement on our Size Chart. If your dog is between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort.

Q2: How should the harness fit?
A proper fit is snug, not tight. You should be able to fit two fingers between the harness and your dog’s body. It should not slide around when your dog walks.

Q3: My dog is between two sizes—what should I do?
Go with the larger size. A slightly larger harness can be adjusted down; a smaller one may rub or restrict movement.

Q4: Is this harness good for puppies?
Yes—just re-check sizing regularly since puppies grow quickly. If your pup is still growing, sizing up and adjusting as needed is usually best.

Comfort, Safety & Control

Q5: Does it help with pulling?
The harness is designed to offer better control and a more balanced feel on walks. It won’t “train” pulling away by itself, but many dogs walk more comfortably with a properly fitted harness vs. a collar.

Q6: Is it safe for my dog’s neck?
Harnesses generally help distribute pressure more evenly than collars. Proper sizing and adjustment are key for comfort and safety.

Q7: Is it escape-proof?
No harness is 100% escape-proof for every dog. For “escape artists,” make sure the harness is properly adjusted (two-finger fit), and always supervise during walks.

Q8: What leash works with this harness?
It works with standard leash clips and common attachment hardware. You can pair it with your current leash or our matching leash for a complete set.

How to Wear & Care

Q9: How do I put it on?

Loosen straps the first time

Slip the harness on and fasten the buckle(s)

Adjust for a snug two-finger fit

Double-check that it sits comfortably and doesn’t twist

Q10: How do I clean it?
We recommend hand washing with mild soap and cold water, then air drying. Avoid high heat to help maintain shape and hardware finish.
